Siza naci� en Matosinhos (Portugal) en 1933 y fund� su propio despacho en 1954 en Oporto, ciudad en cuya universidad imparte clases de construcci�n desde 1976. En 1988 recibi� el Premio Mies van der Rohe de la Uni�n Europea, en 1997 el Praemium Imperiale en Jap�n, en 2009 la Medalla de Oro del RIBA y en 2012 el Le�n de Oro por su trayectoria profesional en la Bienal de Arquitectura de Venecia. Ha realizado un gran n�mero de proyectos en Portugal y ha trabajado en la reestructuraci�n del barrio lisboeta de Chiado tras el devastador incendio de 1988. Tambi�n dise�� el pabell�n portugu�s de la Expo de Lisboa 98 y el pabell�n de la Serpentine Gallery de Londres en 2005, en colaboraci�n con Eduardo Souto de Moura. Entre otros muchos proyectos, ha completado la Fundaci�n Serralves (Oporto, 1998) y el Museo de la Fundaci�n Iber� Camargo en Porto Alegre (Brasil, 2008). Como todas las monograf�as sobre arquitectos de TASCHEN, este libro ha sido elaborado en estrecha colaboraci�n con el arquitecto e incluye un cat�logo completo de todas sus obras hasta la fecha.
