The master of the modern steel-and-glass skyscraper, he was a founder of modernism, the head of the German school of design known as Bauhaus, and the creator of such widely imitated landmarks as the German Pavilion in Barcelona and New York's Seagram building. Elegantly designed and illustrated with dramatic black-and-white photographs, floor plans, and classic details, this new edition brings van der Rohe's seminal book, originally published in 1964, back into print. There is little text: the photographs and drawings convey the "less is more" message. This edition benefits from an expanded appendix and several new color photographs of van der Rohe's most important buildings. A recommended addition to all architectural libraries.

ISBN: 0275495302 (also ISBN 0500201285) is an exclusively black & white, concise and copiously illustrated survey in English only of 51 major works on 203 pages revised in 1972 (first published in 1965) and similar to ISBN-10: 8425214769 published in 1992 by Gustavo Gili (GG) on 208 pages in the Works and Projects series in English and Spanish side by side. A short introductory part on several pages is followed by the main review part presenting each shortly described project in excellent B&W photos, plans, sections, elevations, hard line presentation drawings, models, sketches, etc. The book is ended with a biography, bibliography, list of collaborators, etc. on several pages. Most of 126 only B&W illustrations are technical, but all (incl. B&W photos) are of a good quality, well balanced, crisp and legible. Like all from the Works and Projects series, it is solid among architectural monographs, but slightly smaller than the same book in in the Studio Paperback series published in English and German side by side by Artemis (Z�rich) under ISBN: 3760881025, and by Birkh�user under ISBN: 3764356197 (Basel...) and ISBN: 0817656197 (Boston), and under ISBN: 3764355514 not in English, but in German and French side by side.

Study Materials

I bought this book for use as study materials for the geriatric specialty credentials. It was a nice price, cheaper than the other usual place that sells it, and it was the most up to date version. Informative and useful. It does not have plentiful graphs/tables/charts, and it is in black and white. I would have preferred more charts. Each chapter has its own list of references. Complete with index.

I gave this book a 3 start because it is filled with relevant information regarding LTC nutritional standards of care. However, if you are buying this book to get CEP, as someone wrote under another review, be aware that the book does not include the test or the option to reclaim CPEs. I guess one had to buy a separate test from another website that selll just the test for more money that the book itself!

Great book at less then half the price of other ones I've found. I got a great deal on the 30 credit test that goes with the book from another company thar wanted $149.00 for the book. Don't think you could get 30 credits cheaper any place else.

Errors abound

This review is related to the textbook, NOT the seller. The seller shipped the book quickly and it was in great condition. However, the TEXTBOOK is riddled with numerous errors and CONSTANT redundancy! If the repetition was omitted, the textbook would be half the size. Obviously no one proofs the textbook before printing. One section stated that during the turn of the century, people did not go to hospitals and communicable diseases were the leading cause of death...Well, this was true at the turn of the 20th century! This book has been revised several times in the 21st century, so that statement is no longer true!!! One chapter discussed a 2008 study that predicted events from 2007 (not much of a prediction!). Very unprofessionally written. Maybe professors & schools need to read the text they require their students to read.

Save money - buy the 3rd edition

The information in the book is fine, though I agree with other reviews here that the presentation is a bit wordy. Wendy H.'s review is right; there have not been significant changes since the 3rd edition. As far as I can tell, the updates mainly consist of substituting "Healthy People 2020" in the 4th edition for "Healthy People 2010" in the 3rd. On the first day of class, some people admitted they bought the older edition. Our professor replied, "well, they're pretty much the same," and then emailed us a list of page equivalents for the readings. So I came on Amazon, and bought a used 3rd edition. This is why I never take off the school bookstore's shrink-wrap until after the first class.
