About the Author
"SUZANNE W. DIETRICH" is an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Arizona State University. Her current research focuses on the application of active, declarative and object-oriented database technology to designing event-based enterprise applications by integrating distributed components using rules. Dr. Dietrich's research has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, including the investigation of active rule processing and the development of novel approaches to undergraduate database education. She has numerous publications and is the author of "Understanding Relational Database Query Languages" (Prentice Hall 2001).

"SUSAN D. URBAN" is a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Arizona State University. Her research interests include object-oriented data modeling as well as event, rule, and transaction processing for enterprise application integration. Dr. Urban has been the recipient of several research grants from the National Science Foundation for her research on constraints, active rule processing, the use of databases in engineering design, and the development of innovative teaching concepts for database instruction. Danny Leiwy teaches at the London School of Economics and Political Science, on the University of London's International Programme and City University, London. He is a Senior Teaching Fellow at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. Danny is currently in practice as a Chartered Accountant. Far too many typos will make you spend extra time figuring out what's wrong

The book is well-structured and I think does a fairly good job explaining concepts of accounting.
Yet the problem is that in several places there are typos made in actual figures which gives you a different answer when you do an exercise. This can be pretty annoying and takes extra time. At least in 2 places the explanation was apparently copy-pasted from the previous edition because the diagrams they were explaining, were completely different.

I also wish they would include answers to all questions/exercises, not just self-assessment.

Book is great however, just have a couple of issues

Book is great however, just have a couple of issues:

1) I am using this book in conjunction with a course I am doing at university. In the university subject guide it refers to page numbers in the book. I cannot seem to get page numbers reading the book on my Mac which is very frustrating.

2) There doesn't seem to be any solutions to the end of chapter questions so I cannot check my answers nor seek a solution for guidance when I have no idea what the answer is.

Other than that, e-books are the greatest!

You need it.

Great book. I have the Amaden-Crawford already and think it is a very good draping book. This one is , in my opinion, even better (not that the CAC one is bad).

First : The book begins with all the basics. Tools, fabric weaving, grain, marking style line, a quick reminder about facings and buttoned extensions etc...

Then : How to prepare the figure, with tape over the bust, lines, how to analyse and see the figure if working on a person instead of a dressform. Basic measurements that helps as guides

And finally comes the draping process. For the basic set (basic bodice, skirt and sleeve) They are both quite identical in result. The technic differs a little though. I tend to prefer the way HJA pins ease "fold" while draping : one of my major issue in draping is ease ('cause I've draped for several years by myself molding gowns and bustiers before getting into draping eased garment as dress and tailored jackets...)
But for the 2 darts bodice I really like the way CAC adds a grainline in the center of her princess panel. This really helped me.

I really like that she proposes 2 attachable arms the relaxed (for classic sleeves) and the straight arm (for raglans and kimonos).

The people owning her book on patternmaking will encounter some already known styles (I don't know if it's the same for CAC, I only have her draping book). And as on the drafting book you'll find a really consequent amount of styles to drape.

Buyer beware

I've had this book for about a month and it is already falling apart. For the price I paid for this book, this shouldn't be happening. I've asked other classmates and they've all said the same thing. My rating reflects that of my disappointment. As for the book itself, it's okay but I wouldn't say it's the greatest book for beginners. I agree with a past reviewer that said this book is best used with an instructor.

Excellent book

This book is great for those with intermediary / advanced sewing skills who have a lot of creativity but still need a few pointers to make their sketches come true. It's an education. If you are a beginner and are serious about learning, it's a good investment too, just keep in mind the book assumes you already knows the basics and won't be holding your hand step-by-step.

Newton described this journey in his first book, Journey of Souls, and now takes us back for a second trip that is described in infinitely more detail. Of therapeutic interest is how spirits contact the living to help loved ones they've left behind deal with their grief. He answers the full range of questions one could ever think to ask about life after death: How can a soul be in heaven and reincarnate at the same time? How are new souls created? Newton--counselor, hypnotist and author of Journey of Souls--draws on his regressions of some 70 clients to explore the existence of souls between incarnations. The most affecting section of the book is the second chapter, where Newton turns his attention to grief and argues that between death and reincarnation, discarnate souls are able to contact loved ones and comfort them. Excerpts of his sessions with clients show people realizing that they have had one partner throughout many lives; that after previous deaths, the couple was reunited; and that after this incarnation, they will be together again. Elsewhere, Newton investigates the nonhuman manifestations of spirits on Earth, including elves, fairies and ghosts. Newton also takes on malevolent spirits; arguing that demons and the devil do not exist, he reports that after working with him, clients who initially thought they were possessed by a "malevolent spirit" usually realize they have miscommunicated with a benevolent spirit who was trying to reach them. A rich volume, chock-full of interviews and fascinating first-person narratives, this book is nonetheless not for the uninitiated; Newton sometimes fails to explain his terminology, so readers who do not know much about "lives between lives" may feel lost. His most comprehensive of his three major works...

I have read all Newton's major books which have been fascinated and very helpful in giving new insights especially in regard to in-between lives. Having personally experienced non-stress related out-of-body and white light experiences such research has re-enforced and expanded my understanding.
I was hoping to find satisfactory answers to some questions that all my life have caused me much heartache despite all my readings still do not make sense even in the big picture and continue to go unanswered:

1. What purpose does it serves individuals who die suddenly or from indiscriminate natural "disasters?
2.Prior to having the ability to learn from the experience in their present lives why do the very young suffer and die?
3. Since animals do not have free will as humans and live mostly by instinct, what purpose does their suffering serve?
...And why would a compassionate creator allow a natural system of carnivores/predators causing so much ongoing stress, fear and suffering in the animal kingdom?
4. Why do so many people with so much talent and skill find themselves in circumstances with little opportunity to use those special abilities to make this a better world...Why do not the spirits not work along side us for the greater good rather then allow us to become so discouraged and allow others of greed and cruelty to continue to dominate and decimate our planet?
5. Why does prolonged suffering occur amongst animals ...how could they be learning anything to further there spiritual evolvement since unlike man they are instinctual beings without free will ?
6. It seems that“lessons” can often be so hard, and or prolonged as to severely traumatized a person and loved ones causing understandable bitterness and regression, especially when earthbound the reasons are unfathomable yet still not revealed to them, which seems counter-productive and cruel ? Christ knew with certainty where he came from, his purpose and where he was going and why he was being crucified while God in spirit by his side, giving much needed comfort and fortitude etc. ...so why not the rest of us ?
7. Childhood would seem waste of time rather then starting at a mature age or where one left off from their last incarnation. Children being more prone to engage in abuse (...and further bad karma) cause unnecessary suffering, especially toward the defenseless such as animals?
It would be a great relief as well as remove a substantial hindrance to my spiritual progress if any anyone could answer these questions as specifically as possible or give me references to some text that does, or if unable to ask someone appropriate during your hypnotic therapeutic questionings who could, such as a spiritual guide which if published would be of great interest and worth to others as well.

The multi-faceted elements of human beings as a whole may be more comprehensible to make a comparison to the facets of water.
Water is probably the most wondrous of substances having several distinct forms/properties depending the environment: Solid, liquid and vapor.

Solid State…which we know well. Humane similarities in liquid state: Potential to let go, and just flow...exampfied by the wise elder who fell into a raging river

surviving by not struggling and exhausting himself but rather flowing over the rapids until reaching calmer waters.

Vaporous State …ethereal/spirit state, as in transcending or “passing over.”

In scientific terms; Matter and energy never lost but transformed ...“having continually evolving integrative emergent qualities”.

Such deductions may be comforting as well as enlightening since they coincide with laws of physics, thereby lending fascinating possibilities to human transformative potential.

Life after Life based upon personal and thousands of documented case studies:
Evidence: Those experiencing an“Out-of-body” often see/report things that they couldn’t possibly have seen/known.
Core experiences independent of pre-religious etc. beliefs.
Very young unaculterated children have same experience as adults.
Contrary to claimed as stress induced, experiences are often situationally non-threatening spontaneous events.

“The Unified Field”: Before returning earthbound “Near-Deaths” are often met by loves ones and animals experiencing surroundings of luminous radiant harmony and great beauty.
Any questions/concerns are satisfactory answered telepathically, then consciously deleted.
A detailed review is made of ones life during a wonderful restful period prior to corrective co-strategy...including race, gender, planet etc. for next incarnation.
For teaching progressive/evolvement purposes unless prior reconciled, abuses inflicted are likewise experienced.

Earthlings Are Tough!!

Lots and lots of information and case studies about what to expect on the Other Side and why. It's written well, although I had to take breathers. He's always presenting new information, but it can seem a little repetitive since it's all about love and learning on the Other Side.

I'm thrilled to know there is an Other Side, but sometimes it sure sounds like everyone there is on drugs the way they're thrilled and joyful to be working most of the time, going to school, attending lectures on the importance of compassion, etc., passing the Cup of Sorrows, playing games like Tag. From all the near death books I've read, I understand the joy and peace and love there is indescribable. I guess any author trying to describe the details of life on the Other Side for hundreds of pages is going to risk rendering it almost too ordinary rather than extraordinary. Sometimes it sounds complex and filled with hierarchies that aren't really hierarchies because no one minds being at the levels they are at, even if they are lower down, because they're so darn happy. Who cares if you're feeling groovy!

But I love that he's written this book. I love the regressions and the values shown to be important. I love the lessons people learn from their reincarnations. And I love that Earth is considered a very difficult and strenuous school, and the souls that choose to incarnate here return to the Other Side more insightful and strong as a result. Go earthlings!!!

Lighting The Way To Our Own Destiny

Bringing a further, more intimate, understanding of our destiny as a soul, this book enlarges on that concept as it increasingly deepens our need to know and internalize what we are being shown. Realizing the vast and almost incomprehensible Universe of which we are a part actually pales at the greater teaching we are given of the eternality of our Being along with the everlasting love of the Source and of all the Souls who spread that love by teaching, guiding, encouraging, and informing each Soul on their path to closer Oneness with our Source.

This book changes our lives as we become increasingly more aware of our own soul's presence and symbiosis within this earthly body and the reason our soul has chosen us as a partner on their upward path toward their final journey's end - true Oneness with The One, The I Am, our Source, our Creator.
